Experience
Michael began his career in public accounting in 1996 at Plante & Moran in Southfield, MI. He joined AlixPartners (also in Southfield) in 2004 as the founding member of their internal tax department serving senior management of a rapidly growing global professional services firm. Michael helped the firm navigate tax reporting as it evolved from a single owner consulting practice to a private equity owned, global partnership. Michael joined BDO USA (in Grand Rapids) in 2018 leading their internal tax department modernizing the annual tax package reporting to partners of the firm and expanding the preparation of personal tax returns for many of the owners. He was also instrumental in the tax planning and education of the partners on the firm’s conversion to corporate form and subsequent establishment of an employee stock ownership plan.
Michael has experience with tax planning for professional services organizations and their owners including multi-state and international reporting. He enjoys helping clients understand their personal tax footprint and the relevant drivers that can reduce or defer their tax obligations.
Education
Michael graduated from Evangel University (Springfield, MO) with a Bachelor of Business Administration in May 1992.
Michael received his Master of Science in Taxation from Walsh College (Troy, MI) in December 1999.
Professional Certifications
Michael has been licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in Michigan since February 1998.

Personal
Michael enjoys spending time with his spouse Kathy and their growing family of six children and three grandchildren. As his family spreads their wings, he now has fun places to visit, such as San Jose CA, Nashville, TN and Philadelphia, PA. Michael is also an avid college football and college basketball fan.
