Back in March, we covered the basics of Trump Accounts and how they fit into the savings landscape for kids. The Treasury Department just moved the program out of the “coming soon” column and into the “do this now” column, so here’s a quick update on what just happened and what parents should do next.

The Treasury Has Launched the Trump Accounts App

On May 28, 2026, the Treasury announced the official launch of the Trump Accounts app, now available in both the Apple App Store and Google Play. The same tools are accessible at TrumpAccounts.gov. The full program goes live July 4, 2026, but the activation phase is already underway.

If you have already signed your child up using IRS Form 4547 (Trump Account Election), the Treasury will send out activation emails in waves between now and July 4. Don’t be alarmed if yours doesn’t show up immediately. The rollout is staggered.

If You’ve Already Signed Up Your Child

Three things to watch for:

  • An activation email from no-reply@TrumpAccounts.Treasury.gov confirming your election was processed and prompting you to complete setup. That is the only legitimate sender address during this phase.
  • Follow the instructions to complete activation through the Trump Accounts app or at TrumpAccounts.gov.
  • Starting July 4, 2026, the account can accept contributions from parents, family members, employers, and other eligible contributors, within annual limits. Eligible children will also receive the $1,000 pilot program contribution from Treasury, deposited directly into the account on or after that date.

Things to Note if You Haven’t Signed Up Yet

Enrollment is open year-round. You can elect to open a Trump Account for your child any time before they turn 18 by submitting IRS Form 4547. Visit TrumpAccounts.gov for current instructions. There is no cost to open the account, and your child can only receive employer, charitable, or government contributions if an account is actually open. If anyone in your child’s orbit (an employer, a grandparent, a community organization) plans to chip in, getting the account opened first is the gating step.

Watch Out for Scammers

Whenever Uncle Sam rolls out a new program that puts money in people’s pockets, the scams aren’t far behind. Treasury is being explicit about what counts as legitimate:

  • The only real email sender during this activation phase is no-reply@TrumpAccounts.Treasury.gov.
  • Treasury will not contact you by text message or phone call about Trump Account activation. If a call or text claims to be from the Treasury, ignore it.
  • Always reach the program through the official app or by typing TrumpAccounts.gov directly into your browser. Don’t click search result links blindly.
  • Customer support is handled only through in-app or online callback requests. Phone numbers you find in Google search results are not safe.
