Experience
Sam began his career more than 20 years ago providing federal, state, and local tax advice to companies both domestically and abroad. He has moved his way up through the years as a Senior Manager and Practice Leader before opening his own firm and then becoming a partner with the CPA Nerds!
Sam specializes in Income / Franchise Tax, Michigan Business Tax, Sales and Use Tax, Compliance, Audit, and Planning – especially planning and finding overpaid taxes. His tax philosophy is that “everyone should pay their fair share of taxes but no one should leave a tip!”
Education
Sam Hodges received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in accounting from the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Sam is a Michigan-licensed CPA.
Professional Organizations
Sam is very involved in the CPA world as a member of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and is a CPA Ambassador. After concluding his term on the Board of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, he is now on the Board of the Michigan Accountancy Foundation and currently serves as the Treasurer. Based on his knowledge and experience, he was asked to join the MICPA’s President’s Advisory Council and continues to play a role in shaping the future of the profession!
Personal
Sam works especially hard planning and finding overpaid taxes to help his clients but in his free time, enjoys playing golf, spending time with his family, and occasionally relaxing with a cigar and a glass of Johnny Walker Gold Scotch every once in a while.
